Overview

Framingham State University’s (FSU) Professional Science Master’s (PSM) program provides industry-focused scientific and management training to life science professionals, positioning them for future success in managerial or supervisory roles as they advance in their careers. Aligned with the FSU institutional mission of offering programs that produce qualified graduates needed for the Commonwealth job market, the PSM program is flexible and adaptable to the diverse needs of employers in the Massachusetts life sciences community.

The interdisciplinary program draws on faculty from the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics and Business Administration. All courses are team-taught, led by FSU faculty with guest lecturers from the industry. This model serves two purposes: first, guest lecturers provide students with concrete examples of how course material is practically applied. Second, it provides students with networking opportunities and the potential to form mentoring relationships with industry professionals.

Framingham State University’s Graduate Certificate in Quality Assurance (QA) for Biotechnology offers life science professionals foundational training for a role in quality assurance. The certificate combines training in QA with applicable scientific concepts and regulatory affairs, providing a foundation for successful liaison with the various departments involved in QA within an organization. The certificate program offers flexibility for those who want training in quality assurance without committing to the length of time required for the Professional Science Master’s degree (PSM). The certificate program can also be completed as part of the Professional Science Master’s Degree in Biotechnology.

Undergraduate
Framingham State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Biotechnology and Biomedical Concentration. Students in this program may elect a curriculum that emphasizes cellular and molecular biology. Courses covering microbiology, immunology, genetics, recombinant DNA technology, and cell culture are appropriate for those interested in research positions in the biotechnology industry, medical centers and government agencies. Graduates of the program are also prepared for a careers in diverse areas of the pharmaceutical industry such as product development, sales and marketing, quality control and technical training.
