Overview

Northeastern University is a practice-oriented, student-centered private research university located in downtown Boston. Founded in 1898, Northeastern offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs and is internationally known for its focus on practice-oriented education, combining liberal arts, professional and cooperative education. Units at Northeastern with expertise and interest in areas relevant to the biotechnology industry include the College of Science, (programs in behavioral neurosciences, biology, biochemistry, biomedical physics, chemistry and chemical biology, marine biology and marine science, physics, biotechnology), the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, (comprised of schools of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Professions), the College of Computer Science, the College of Professional Studies (part-time and evening programs for working professionals), and the Barnett Institute for Chemical and Biological Analysis (a center for advanced interdisciplinary research in the molecular sciences). The Northeastern University Center for Drug Discovery is dedicated to the multidisciplinary training of scientists in the art and science of drug discovery, the development of allied facilitative technologies, the discovery and characterization of potential new medications, and collaboration with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. In addition, currently, there are two professional science masters programs, one in Biotechnology and the other in Bioinformatics that are specifically designed to train the biotechnology professionals of tomorrow with an emphasis on the science and business aspects of the field. Both have both full-time and part-time options (with on ground and online course options as well), and Biotechnology is comprised of the choice between four concentrations: Biopharmaceutical Analytical Sciences, Biotechnology Enterprise, Pharmaceutical Technologies, and Process Sciences.
