Overview

The University of Massachusetts includes five campuses strategically located across the Commonwealth in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell, and Worcester, plus online education provider, UMassOnline, which together educate more than 59,000 students. Over 4,500 faculty members attract $250 million in research funds and power the creative, innovation economy. The Amherst campus is internationally recognized for strengths in chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, linguistics, polymer science and engineering, and psychology. UMass Boston is a national model for urban universities, attracting students of all ages and backgrounds, and focusing on the research and policy needs of business, state and local government, urban communities, the elderly and the environment. UMass Dartmouth has a broad emphasis on the liberal arts with special strengths in marine sciences, engineering, visual arts and design, and medical laboratory sciences and nursing. UMass Lowell is the most technologically-oriented campus with an emphasis on emerging technologies and strengths in advanced materials, plastics manufacturing and nanotechnology. UMass Worcester is home to the University’s Medical Center, including the Medical School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Graduate School of Nursing. Several UMMS faculty are internationally recognized for their research efforts. UMassOnline is one of the nation’s top-ranked accredited distance learning universities, with over 9,000 enrolled students.
