Overview

The British Government is represented in the US by the Embassy in Washington and over a dozen diplomatic offices around the US, including Boston. Our priority is to build and assist strong business links between US and UK companies through UK Trade & Investment by assisting UK-based companies to expand with confidence in increasingly global markets. We also provide essential knowledge, expertise and contacts for US companies that want to invest in the vibrant, diversified and robust British economy.

UK Trade & Investment operates by bringing together a network of business sector specialists and support teams from throughout the UK, and around the world in British Embassies and other diplomatic missions.

US-wide Sector Lead, Dr. Hilary Glidden, who is responsible for directing the UKTI activity in the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical sectorsr throughout the US, is based in Boston. Hilary’s team facilitate business development activities for UK and US companies and research institutions by supporting the formation of strategic alliances, joint ventures, and licensing agreements. Companies also benefit from gaining information about commercialisation and market entry issues specific to the US and UK in early stages of development.

The Consulate also houses a Science & Innovation team whose aim is to promote links between universities, technology providers and users in the UK and US.

Through its contacts in the US industry, academia and research institutions, the team identifies opportunities for collaboration between those on the cutting-edge of Science and Technology in New England and the UK. The Boston team is part of the US Science & Innovation Network, which also has offices in Washington, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston as well as opening soon in New York and Chicago.
