About Eric
Eric Rasmussen is Vice President, Government Relations and Public Affairs at Sumitomo Pharma America, which is focused on the innovative application of science, medicine and technologies to help people with serious psychiatric, neurological and respiratory conditions. Mr. Rasmussen leads Sumitomo Pharma America’s interactions with the United States (U.S.) Congress, Administration, Executive Agencies, Governors, and State Legislatures. He guides the work of Sumitomo Pharma America’s Government Affairs team with legislators and regulators in Washington, DC and in state capitals throughout the U.S. to advance legislation and regulations that ensure access to medicines and support innovation.
Mr. Rasmussen has extensive experience working with the Federal Government of the U.S. to develop and shape health care policy and played a role in the creation and enactment of numerous pieces of major legislation, including the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Prior to joining Sumitomo Pharma America, Mr. Rasmussen provided legal and policy counsel at Patton Boggs LLP to a wide range of health care clients, trade associations, patient and provider groups and medical societies on complex federal administrative and legislative matters. Previously, as Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) Mr. Rasmussen acted as lead policy advisor and legislative strategist in the areas of health care, education, labor and social security.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) Mr. Rasmussen serves on the Board of the Public Affairs Council and works closely with the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
Mr. Rasmussen received a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a member of Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a B.A. in English from the University of Utah.
